[Asia Economy Reporter No Woo-rae] ○…World No. 13 Bryson DeChambeau (USA, photo) showcased his long-hitting power.

On the 10th (Korean time), he broadcasted a scene on his internet stream where his driver shot ball speed reached 203 mph using simulation golf equipment. The data measured the carry distance at about 330 yards. This is an incredible record surpassing last year's PGA Tour long drive champion Cameron Champ (USA), whose average ball speed was 190.7 mph and top ball speed was 198.91 mph. DeChambeau claimed, "The spin rate is 2000 rpm," and "It flew 360 yards."

DeChambeau is known as a 'quirky golfer' due to his unconventional club setup that breaks common sense. For irons, shafts are usually longer with lower numbers, but DeChambeau is an exception. From 3-iron to wedge, all 10 clubs have the same length of 37.5 inches and weight of 280g. He is popular for preferring a hunting cap reminiscent of Ben Hogan (USA). However, he has recently faced criticism for slow play controversies. He has earned 5 PGA Tour wins in total.

Since last fall, DeChambeau has been working hard to increase his distance by gaining weight and building muscle mass. This year, he is reaping the benefits. In the 2018/2019 season, he ranked 34th in the long drive category (302.5 yards). His average ball speed was 175.4 mph, and his top ball speed was only 180.83 mph. However, in the 2019/2020 season, his average drive shot distance is leading the category at 321.3 yards.
