[Asia Economy Intern Reporter Heo Midam] Actor Joo Jin-mo is facing the spread of text messages presumed to be from a hacked mobile phone. The civic group Korea Cyber Sexual Violence Response Center (Hansaseong) stated, "The female victims also plan to take strong legal action."
On the 10th, Hansaseong posted on Facebook, "Text messages between male actor A and Joo Jin-mo were hacked and made public online. Although the volume was considerable, the shocking content caused the screenshots to spread rapidly."
They continued, "The disclosed messages included situations where Joo Jin-mo and actor A allegedly engaged in power-abuse prostitution targeting aspiring entertainers in private, referred to women as 'kids' and made specific comments about their faces and bodies, used obscene language, and contained materials presumed to be non-consensually leaked recordings."
Hansaseong pointed out, "In the world you created, men say, 'Joo Jin-mo was single at the time, so an adult man can meet women,' which reflects the conversations of 'successful men' who say, 'Is there any man who wouldn't get caught if searched?' and 'All men are like that.' You also claim they are 'victims of privacy leaks only.'"
They added, "Various evaluations of women and the culture of sexual exploitation are considered completely normal. This world is inherited from your male seniors, and you have added to it to pass it on to your juniors."
They raised their critical voice, saying, "Joo Jin-mo, but the world has changed. Women no longer allow such things. There is a social consensus that such private matters cannot be tolerated. The dirty culture of sexual exploitation you have enjoyed and the gender power that enabled it will be dismantled along with your status."
Earlier, on the 7th, Joo Jin-mo announced the hacking incident through his agency, Why Brothers Korea.
Joo Jin-mo's side stated, "Because he is a celebrity, he has been maliciously threatened with invasion of privacy and disclosure of personal materials, and the hacker is demanding money as compensation. We will take legal action based on the collected materials."
Subsequently, on the 10th, some messages presumed to be exchanged between Joo Jin-mo and actor A were released on an online community. In the messages, Joo Jin-mo shared photos of women with actor A and made sexual remarks, causing controversy.
As the controversy intensified, Joo Jin-mo's agency stated, "All acts of creating, posting, or distributing rumors are subject to legal punishment."
