On the 13th (Korean time), Real Madrid played against Atletico in the final of the 2019-20 Supercopa de Espa?a (Spanish Super Cup) held at King Abdullah Sports City Stadium in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. After a 0-0 draw, Real won 4-1 in the penalty shootout.
Neither team was able to break through the other's goalkeeper throughout the match, and the extra time also failed to produce a winner. Real had the advantage in ball possession and number of shots, but Atletico's defense and counterattacks were formidable.
In the 24th minute of the second half of extra time, during an Atletico counterattack, Morata faced a one-on-one chance with the goalkeeper. As Morata rushed toward the goal along with the defenders, Valverde boldly executed a back tackle just outside the penalty box, nullifying the scoring opportunity. Valverde was subsequently sent off.
Real, having exchanged a red card for Atletico's scoring chance, focused on defense for the remaining five minutes and led the game into the penalty shootout.
In the shootout, Real's first kicker Carvajal shot in the opposite direction of Oblak's dive and scored the first goal. Atletico's first kicker Niguez also shot in the opposite direction of Courtois but was unlucky as the ball hit the left goalpost.
Real's second kicker Rodrygo struck a powerful shot into the upper right corner of the net. Atletico's Partey missed the second chance as the goalkeeper made a save.
With both teams' third kickers, Modri? and Trippier, scoring to make it 3-1, Real's captain Ramos came out as the fourth kicker, completely deceived Oblak, and scored, securing Real's victory.
