Trump: "Midterm Election Results Set U.S. Back Historically"
"The stock market lost $3 trillion in a single day"
U.S. President Donald Trump claimed on November 8 (local time) that the United States had suffered a historic setback after the Democratic Party's landslide victory in the midterm elections. He criticized the Democrats' victory, linking it to the sharp decline in U.S. stocks immediately after the elections.
Trump said on his Truth Social account that day, "The United States has suffered a historically massive setback as a result of the last election," adding, "Even the stock market, which had soared like a rocket since I took office, lost $3 trillion in a single day."
His remarks are seen as targeting the sharp decline in U.S. stocks amid growing concerns about tighter regulations on the artificial intelligence (AI) industry following the Democrats' victory in the midterm elections. In effect, Trump blamed the market's decline on the Democrats' electoral victory.
At the same time, Trump appealed to his supporters to rally behind him, saying, "But do not be afraid. We will come back bigger and stronger than ever."
The remarks are interpreted as signaling his determination to confront the Democratic-controlled Congress rather than revise his existing policy agenda, despite the midterm election defeat.

Earlier, on November 6, Trump nominated White House Deputy Chief of Staff Stephen Miller, who has championed a hard-line "America First" approach on issues including tariffs and immigration policy, as the new chief of staff. Miller's appointment is also being seen as a signal that Trump intends to stick with his existing policies despite the midterm election loss.
