'Electrical Control Unit' Caused Daegu Metro Line 3 Failure
Three failures and disruptions in about two months
Authorities plan a full inspection of the relevant components
Amid a series of failures and disruptions on Daegu Metro Line 3, it has been confirmed that the failure on November 7 was caused by an electrical control unit.
According to Daegu City and other sources on November 8, the service suspension on Daegu Metro Line 3 the previous day began when an electrical control unit on a train malfunctioned. The unit supplies electricity to the train.
The train's emergency generator came on, powering the interior lights and other systems, but it could not generate enough power to operate the train. The train is currently at the Bummul Train Depot, where the exact cause of the failure is being investigated. Authorities plan to inspect all units of the relevant parts.
At around 2:24 p.m. on November 7, train services were delayed across the entire Daegu Metro Line 3 due to a train failure between Jisan and Bummul stations. Service returned to normal about 30 minutes later. Daegu Transportation Corporation sent an alert text message 30 minutes after the failure occurred. The corporation also faced criticism for a delayed response to passengers after sending an alert text message about 50 minutes after a service suspension on September 7.
