Roh Taemoon Buys 3,000 Samsung Electronics Shares on Open Market... Price Per Share is
At 210,000 won per share, totaling 630 million won
Seen as a sign of "belief that the stock is undervalued and commitment to responsible management"
With Samsung Electronics' share price plunging after the U.S. midterm elections, Roh Taemoon, CEO and head of the company's Device eXperience (DX) Division, purchased 3,000 shares of the company.
According to the Financial Supervisory Service's electronic disclosure system on November 6, Roh purchased 3,000 common shares of Samsung Electronics on the open market that day. The purchase price was 210,000 won per share, for a total of 630 million won.
The purchase is being interpreted as a move to demonstrate his belief that the stock is undervalued and his commitment to responsible management. Because it came during a period of falling share prices, the purchase could be seen as a message aimed at easing market jitters and restoring investor confidence.
Following the purchase, Roh's holdings of Samsung Electronics shares rose from 124,280 to 127,280. He had previously bought 3,045 shares at 230,000 won each in late July. His investment at the time totaled approximately 700.35 million won. This means he spent a total of 1.33035 billion won to buy 6,045 shares in the second half of this year alone.
Samsung Electronics closed regular trading that day at 188,700 won, down 12,800 won (6.35%) from the previous trading day, sending its share price below 200,000 won. Compared with its closing price of 242,000 won on October 28, the stock had fallen about 22% in nine days. The last time Samsung Electronics closed below 200,000 won was on April 7, when it ended the session at 196,500 won, about seven months earlier.
Concerns had spread that policy uncertainty surrounding investment in artificial intelligence (AI) data and the semiconductor industry had increased after the U.S. midterm elections. Analysts said selling had concentrated on semiconductor-related stocks amid growing concerns about a possible slowdown in AI infrastructure investment.

Meanwhile, the KOSPI closed at 5,059.69, down 6.02% from the previous trading day. Early in the session, it even fell below the 5,000-point level, triggering a circuit breaker that halted stock trading for 20 minutes. After the circuit breaker was lifted, a program trading sell-sidecar was triggered in succession. The index pared some of its losses in the afternoon and recovered above 5,000.
