South Korean Junior Diplomat Sent to Japan's Foreign Ministry... as Part of 'Korea-Japan Exchange Program'
"Contribute to the development of friendly and cooperative relations between Korea and Japan"
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced on November 6 that it will send one Korean entry-level diplomat to Japan's Ministry of Foreign Affairs from November 9 to 20 as part of the Korea-Japan Exchange Program for Entry-Level Diplomats.
The program was launched as a follow-up to the “Joint Declaration on a New Korea-Japan Partnership for the 21st Century,” agreed upon by President Kim Dae-jung and Prime Minister Keizo Obuchi in October 1998. It was held from 1999 to 2001 and from 2012 to 2017, then suspended for some time. It resumed last year after the diplomatic authorities of the two countries reached an agreement to mark the 60th anniversary of the normalization of Korea-Japan diplomatic relations.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs said, “This dispatch follows the reception of one Japanese entry-level diplomat in Korea in April this year. We expect it to contribute to the development of friendly and cooperative relations between Korea and Japan by fostering mutual understanding and trust among working-level diplomats from both countries and promoting exchanges between their diplomatic authorities.”
