PPP Takes Protest Outside Over 'Special Counsel Bill to Cancel Trials'; Jang Donghyuk: 'Resuming Lee's Trial Is the Answer'
People Power Party Holds Rally in Front of National Assembly’s Main Building
Jang: “An Evil Law Is Poison to Democracy”
The People Power Party launched an outdoor protest on Nov. 6 in response to the ruling party-led passage of the "Special Prosecutor Act on Fabricated Indictments" at a plenary session. Party leader Jang Donghyuk described the bill as "legislation designed to erase President Lee Jae-myung's crimes" and called for the president's impeachment and the resumption of his trials.
Speaking at the "National Rally to Condemn the Forced Passage of the Evil Law to Cancel Lee Jae-myung's Trials," held in front of the National Assembly's main building that day, Jang said, "November 6, 2026, is the day the rule of law in the Republic of Korea died," and claimed it was "the day Lee Jae-myung lived and the Republic of Korea died."

He continued, "The Special Prosecutor Act on Fabricated Indictments is itself legislative fabrication and fabricated legislation," and claimed it was "a law that makes crimes disappear as long as the offender becomes president." He added, "Not every law is truly a law just because it has passed the National Assembly," and said, "An evil law is poison to democracy."
Jang said, "A country where a law exists for just one person is a dictatorship," and declared, "For a president unwilling to uphold the Constitution, impeachment is the only answer; for a president trying to erase his own crimes, resuming the trials is the only answer."
He also called on the judiciary to resume the trials involving President Lee. "The courts must step in when people are insulting the chief justice of the Supreme Court in the name of protecting the president and even pushing for a parliamentary investigation and impeachment," he said. "The judiciary must resume the trials if it is to safeguard its independence."
