Mayor Lee Mingeun: "Making Ansan a Leading City for Robotics"... Accelerating Efforts to Attract Companies to ASV
Ansan, Gyeonggi Province, is using RoboWorld 2026, Korea’s largest robotics industry exhibition, to attract advanced robotics companies. The city aims to build a robotics industry ecosystem centered on Ansan Science Valley (ASV), which was designated part of the Gyeonggi Free Economic Zone in January. The ecosystem will span research and development, technology demonstration, commercialization and mass production, with the goal of making Ansan a leading city for Korea’s advanced robotics industry.

Opened on Nov. 4, the exhibition runs through Nov. 7 and has drawn about 400 companies from Korea and abroad. Approximately 50,000 people, including purchasing managers and visitors, are expected to attend during the event.
The city is using the exhibition as an opportunity to attract advanced robotics companies and is highlighting Ansan Science Valley’s locational advantages and investment support programs. It is also making a concerted effort to secure tenants for the Industry-Academia-Research Innovation Hub, which is being developed at Hanyang University ERICA’s Campus Innovation Park.
At an investment briefing held at 2 p.m. in Room 211 of KINTEX Exhibition Hall 1, the city presented the development plan for Ansan Science Valley, investment incentives offered by the Gyeonggi Free Economic Zone, tenant requirements for the Industry-Academia-Research Innovation Hub, and business support programs.
The briefing was attended by the Gyeonggi Free Economic Zone Authority, Hanyang University ERICA, Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH), and the Korea SMEs and Startups Agency, among other relevant organizations. They provided information on investment and tenancy, and also held on-site consultations and accepted applications from prospective tenants.
Ansan City is working hard to attract companies because Ansan Science Valley has strong research and development capabilities and a manufacturing base.
Ansan Science Valley is an advanced industry innovation hub spanning 1.66 square kilometers in Sadong, Sangnok-gu. The area was designated part of the Gyeonggi Free Economic Zone on Jan. 15. The city plans to develop it into a key hub for the advanced robotics and smart manufacturing industries.
The area is home to universities and research institutions, including Hanyang University ERICA, the Korea Institute of Industrial Technology, Korea Testing Laboratory, the Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute, and Gyeonggi Technopark. Another advantage is that companies can also draw on the manufacturing base of the neighboring Banwol and Sihwa National Industrial Complexes.

With research and development facilities located close to production sites, the city expects to create an environment conducive to technology commercialization and mass production.
The Industry-Academia-Research Innovation Hub, a key facility for attracting companies, has also begun actively recruiting tenants.
Located at Hanyang University ERICA’s Campus Innovation Park, the Industry-Academia-Research Innovation Hub will have one basement floor and 15 above-ground floors, with a total floor area of 22,474 square meters. It will offer 92 units for startups and growth-stage companies, with rents expected to be set at about 80% of prevailing local market rates.
The city is also highlighting the site’s transportation access. The hub is about a three-minute walk from the planned Hanyang University Station on the Sinansan Line. Once the line opens, the trip to Yeouido is expected to take about 25 minutes.
Ansan Science Valley can benefit from support programs offered through the Gyeonggi Free Economic Zone, the Specialized Research and Development Zone, and the Campus Innovation Park (Urban High-Tech Industrial Complex). The city plans to connect companies with investment incentives and research and development support according to their individual eligibility, helping tenant companies build a foundation for growth.
Ansan City will operate an Ansan Science Valley promotional booth in Hall 5 of KINTEX Exhibition Hall 1 through Nov. 7, the final day of the exhibition. The city plans to hold tailored investment consultations with domestic and international robotics companies and focus on identifying promising companies in advanced robotics and smart manufacturing.
Korea Land and Housing Corporation will also accept applications in person at the exhibition for tenancy in the Industry-Academia-Research Innovation Hub over two days, Nov. 5 and 6. The city plans to use the event to expand investment partnerships with companies and provide follow-up support to turn them into actual tenancy and investment.
Ansan City plans to strengthen cooperation among universities, research institutions and companies centered on Ansan Science Valley, and foster the advanced robotics and smart manufacturing industries as future growth engines for the region.
“Ansan Science Valley is an advanced industry innovation hub with both excellent research and development capabilities and a strong manufacturing base in the Banwol and Sihwa National Industrial Complexes,” Mayor Lee Mingeun said. “Building on its designation as part of the Gyeonggi Free Economic Zone, we will actively attract investment from promising robotics companies and encourage them to set up operations here to make ‘Robot City Ansan’ a reality.”
