Animal protection groups consider filing police complaint
"Suspected of tying their mouths to stop them barking"
Seven dogs suspected of having been abused were found in the Seongbuk-gu area of Seoul, sparking controversy. Animal protection groups and others are considering filing a police complaint.
According to online communities and other sources on the 5th, Instagram user A found a white dog abandoned in a black plastic bag with garbage by the roadside leading to Bugak Skyway at around 9:40 p.m. on the 2nd, while walking her dog. The dog's mouth had been tied with a rubber band.
The next day, on the 3rd, another resident found an additional dog inside a bag in a grassy area near Miari Pass.
A and the residents suspected that more dogs had been abandoned and searched the surrounding area. As a result, on the previous day, the 4th, they found five more dogs in a grassy area in Seongbuk-dong. The dogs were reportedly found with their mouths tied with tape or wrapped in cloth.
In particular, the dogs had skin diseases and other illnesses, or were injured, including ruptured cruciate ligaments. Some were unable to walk properly because they had been tied up in confined spaces for a long time.
A shared details of the discovery and the dogs' condition on her Instagram account and asked for witness tips. She is also reportedly considering filing a police complaint.

The animal protection group Animal Freedom Solidarity is also conducting its own investigation, including seeking witnesses. A representative of the group said, "We suspect they tied the dogs' muzzles before abandoning them so people wouldn't hear them barking," adding, "They may not have been buried, but they were left to die alive." Animal Freedom Solidarity is also considering filing a related complaint.
