"Forecasting Weather for Concrete Pouring" Hyundai E&C Sites to Tighten Quality Control
Advanced Q-Pocket with AI and big data capabilities
Hyundai Engineering & Construction said on November 5 that it would expand the functions of Q-Pocket, an integrated inspection system it developed previously, to cover all areas of quality management. The system has been upgraded into a collaborative platform that allows all construction stakeholders, including clients, site supervisors, contractors and subcontractors, to share information in real time.
Q-Pocket is a system for real-time on-site quality management via mobile devices and the web. Hyundai Engineering & Construction developed it in 2021, becoming the first in the industry to do so. The system supports everything from preparing inspection and testing plans to inspecting materials and managing concrete cracks. Its contactless system, which allows users to immediately prepare a report on site when they find a construction defect and proceed with corrective action by subcontractors in one go, is patented.

The upgraded Q-Pocket concrete quality management system draws on weather forecasts from the Korea Meteorological Administration to plan concrete pouring. It improves the accuracy of curing for cold-weather concrete (concrete placed in conditions with temperatures of 4°C or below) and expands mobile-based management to include defects and cracks. Hyundai Engineering & Construction introduced its concrete quality management system in 2018 and has refined it in various ways since then.

A Hyundai Engineering & Construction official said, "Since developing Q-Pocket, the industry's first smart integrated quality management system, and applying it to on-site work, we have continuously upgraded the system and developed new technologies, bringing the entire on-site quality management process into a system. We will continue to advance our AI-based analytical capabilities and systems for using on-site data, broadening the scope of smart quality management technology and working to achieve 100% on-site adoption."
