Hanam City Launches TF to Address Misa K-Culture, Gamil 2... Develops Transportation and Jobs Plans
Mayor Lee Hyunjae: "Housing, jobs and transportation infrastructure must be provided together"
Reviewing measures for original residents and business attraction... Discussing key issues weekly
Hanam City in Gyeonggi Province has established a dedicated organization to respond to the Hanam Misa K-Culture project and the designation of the Hanam Gamil 2 Public Housing District. The initiative aims to analyze issues identified during the development of previous new towns, such as inadequate transportation and infrastructure, and reflect the city’s requests in plans for new public housing projects.
Hanam City said on November 4 that it had formed a task force (TF) led by Park Chuno, head of the Future City Projects Division, with department heads taking part, and held its first meeting on November 2. The measure follows the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s announcement of new housing sites and the subsequent launch of district designation procedures.
The TF will focus on five areas: project management, measures for original residents, metropolitan transportation, district planning, and business attraction and balanced regional development. It plans to review a comprehensive response to project implementation, measures for original residents, metropolitan transportation plans, consultations on district planning, strategies for business relocation and attraction, and urban management and institutional improvements in surrounding areas.
The city will analyze issues that required improvement during previous public housing projects in Misa, Gamil, Wirye and Gyosan, and take proactive steps to address them in new projects. It will hold weekly meetings to discuss key issues and response plans for each matter, and consult with relevant organizations from the initial stages of district planning to ensure the city’s views are reflected.
Lee Hyunjae, mayor of Hanam City, who attended the first meeting, said, "Please do your utmost to ensure that the new town is developed as a place where people can live, work and enjoy leisure, with housing and jobs together and infrastructure such as transportation provided at the same time."

Lee also called for efforts to address disparities between the new town and other areas. "Please do everything possible to improve the system, including granting authority to amend urban management plans, so that no areas are left behind, and work to resolve outstanding issues in Gyosan and elsewhere as soon as possible," he said. He added, "Please listen more closely to the voices of residents who are losing their homes and actively gather their opinions."
