Samyang Group announced on November 5 that it held the Samyang Innovation R&D Fair (SIRF) 2026 at the Samyang Discovery Center in Pangyo, Gyeonggi Province, on November 4. Now in its 15th year, SIRF is an event where the group's researchers share their R&D achievements from the past year and receive awards for outstanding projects.

Two projects were selected for this year's Excellence Award: "Development of Compound Materials for Laser Welding" and "Development of Ion-Exchange Resins for Nuclear Power Plants." Each research team received prize money of 30 million won.

The compound material for laser welding is a high-performance plastic that reduces heat damage to ultra-precision electronic components. It was the first of its kind developed in South Korea and is currently used in automotive cameras and drive systems.

Ion-exchange resins for nuclear power plants remove impurities from reactor coolant and prevent corrosion in pipes. Samyang Group developed its own manufacturing process to reduce raw material consumption and improve performance, and supplies the product to Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power.

At the event, seven research institutes across the group, including those focused on chemicals, food, and biopharmaceuticals, exhibited research projects involving high-value-added engineering plastics, new biomaterials, and gene therapies.

Samyang Group Chairman Kim Yoon said, "We must continually review and strengthen R&D priorities and core capabilities in line with our mid- to long-term business strategy." He added, "Please embed artificial intelligence (AI) as a fundamental part of R&D infrastructure and build differentiated research competitiveness."
