LG AI Research said on November 4 that it had received the Chairperson’s Award from the Presidential Council on Intellectual Property, an organization affiliated with the Prime Minister, in recognition of the technical contributions of its self-developed AI compliance agent, “EXAONE Nexus,” at the Copyright Technology Awards held as part of the 2026 International Copyright Technology Conference (ICOTEC), hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

EXAONE Nexus is a specialized AI compliance agent that automatically analyzes the complex, multilayered legal risks embedded in large-scale AI training datasets, including copyright, licensing and personal information.

Recently, legal risks have grown across the global AI industry amid controversy over copyright infringement involving AI training data, raising concerns about a decline in trust in the technology. EXAONE Nexus traces the origins of vast datasets that would be impossible for people to review one by one, and precisely tracks changes in rights relationships when source data is redistributed or combined.

In performance tests, EXAONE Nexus analyzed a single dataset 45 times faster and with 26% greater accuracy than legal experts. Its cost was just one-thousandth of the existing level, demonstrating dramatically improved review efficiency.

Using EXAONE Nexus as its foundation, LG AI Research is establishing a “global AI compliance standards framework” that can be used anywhere in the world. It has proactively incorporated the latest laws and regulations in major jurisdictions into an integrated framework, including Korea’s AI Basic Act and the European Union’s AI Act.

To enhance reliability, LG AI Research worked with around 40 lawyers from major law firms in Korea and abroad, including in the United States, to validate the legal soundness of the analysis results. The risk assessments of more than 20,000 open datasets analyzed in this process have been made fully available to academia and the research community to support the development of the research ecosystem.

LG AI Research has designated EXAONE Nexus as a mandatory validation step for all AI models it develops internally, using it throughout the entire process, from data collection and refinement to model development and service deployment. It plans to significantly expand platform offerings to global tech giants and law firms that urgently need to address data copyright risks.

This achievement aligns with the group-wide commitment to “compliance management” emphasized by Koo Kwang-mo, CEO of LG Corp. Koo has stressed that “a shift in perspective is needed to view compliance as core infrastructure for corporate growth and development” and that “systems must be continuously enhanced to reflect changes in the times and society in a timely manner.”

Lee Hwayoung, head of AI Business Development at LG AI Research, said, “Securing public trust amid the rapid advancement of AI technology is a key competitive advantage for businesses. LG will always put people at the center of technology and continue to introduce AI technologies that combine high reliability with outstanding performance.”
