Korea Airports Corporation said it held the awards ceremony for the 2nd Smartphone Airport Photography Contest at its headquarters in Gangseo-gu, Seoul, on November 3.

To encourage public interest in regional airports, the corporation held the contest jointly with the Korea Press Photographers Association from June 15 to August 18, under the theme “Every Moment with Airports.”

A total of 595 people entered the contest, submitting 937 photographs. Following two rounds of judging by a panel comprising photojournalists and design experts, 20 outstanding works were selected, including one grand prize, two top prizes, and three excellence prizes.

At the ceremony, Kim Wonjun, president of Korea Airports Corporation, and Lee Hojae, president of the Korea Press Photographers Association, presented the winners with certificates and a total of 7.5 million won in prize money: 1.5 million won for the grand prize, 1 million won each for the top prizes, and 600,000 won each for the excellence prizes.

The corporation will also exhibit the winning entries from November 6 to 11 at a pop-up exhibition space at 68 Samcheong-ro in Samcheong-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul. The exhibition will showcase photographs capturing a range of perspectives, from the excitement of travel to special moments at the airport.

“Moments at airports captured with the familiar tool of a smartphone have become works that each tell a story from a unique perspective,” said Lee Hojae, president of the Korea Press Photographers Association. “I hope this contest will be an opportunity for people to discover new charms of airports.”

“We will continue to expand our engagement with the public so that airports can be seen not just as places to board and disembark from planes, but as familiar spaces where special experiences and memories begin,” said Kim Wonjun, president of Korea Airports Corporation.
