The Sangju City Council, led by Chair Ahn Changsoo, held the second lecture of the "2026 Fall Future Knowledge Academy" on November 2 in the main conference room of the Sangju City Public Health Center, inviting Kim Jeongnam, a distinguished professor in the Department of AI Future Studies at KAIST.

The lecture was organized as part of research into an AI Basic Society and future growth strategies for Sangju, conducted by the lawmakers' research group, the "Sangju+AI Research Association."

Under the theme "National AI Policy and Sangju's Future Strategy," Professor Kim explained how AI agents could transform markets and jobs, as well as how local governments should respond. In particular, he outlined the potential uses of AI in areas closely connected to residents' lives, including healthcare, care services, transportation and agriculture.

He also emphasized that what matters is not simply introducing AI services, but whether residents actually use them and experience changes in their daily lives. To this end, he proposed establishing an institutional foundation, securing local data on residents' daily lives and carrying out pilot projects involving residents as key priorities.

The Sangju+AI Research Association plans to incorporate the policy directions and residents' opinions presented at the lecture into its research and develop an AI Basic Society and future growth strategies suited to Sangju's circumstances.

The Sangju City Council plans to advance AI technology beyond a tool for administrative innovation and use it as a policy tool to address everyday difficulties residents face in healthcare, care services and mobility.

AI competitiveness depends not on the adoption of technology, but on how much it transforms people's lives.

Attention is focused on whether the Sangju-style AI Basic Society will offer a new solution to the crisis of regional depopulation.
