Moving Wall is a new residential solution that allows residents to divide or combine spaces in their homes according to their lifestyles and how they want to use the space, moving beyond the traditional approach of living with the floor plan selected at the time of purchase.

The key feature of Moving Wall is that it changes the fixed approach to space selection in conventional apartments. Until now, apartment buyers had to choose from a set of floor plan options at the presale stage, such as adding an extra room or expanding the living room and kitchen. It was also difficult to change the layout after moving in.

By contrast, Moving Wall lets residents move walls as needed and use a single space for different purposes. For example, they can use it as a private space when working from home or when their children need a place to study, then move the wall to create a spacious living or dining area when spending time together as a family.

Moving Wall offers a range of types to suit residents’ diverse lifestyles: the “Wide Dining–Alpha Room” type, which allows residents to choose between a dining area and a separate work or study space; the “Hidden Kitchen” type, which can conceal the kitchen area as needed; the “Wide Living–Alpha Room” type, which lets residents use a spacious living room and a separate alpha room to suit the situation; and the “Room-in-Room” type, which creates a separate space inside a bedroom.

GS E&C applied robotic furniture technology to Moving Wall in collaboration with ROVOTHOME, a company specializing in robotic furniture. ROVOTHOME is a venture company backed by XPLOR Investment, a subsidiary of GS E&C.

Moving Wall uses precision drive-control technology to move the furniture unit horizontally without a separate travel rail. The system detects and corrects lateral deviations and slight misalignment in real time as the unit moves, enabling stable movement even in narrow spaces.

It also features a low-noise, low-vibration structure suited to residential environments, along with obstacle and collision detection, improving ease of use and safety. The system also incorporates artificial intelligence (AI)-based management technology that uses operational data to predict potential malfunctions and when maintenance will be needed.

Residents can adjust Moving Wall’s position through an app and manage lighting brightness and color temperature, security and locking functions, and automation presets in one place.

GS E&C plans to pursue integration with “AI Home,” which it is co-developing with LG Electronics. The company aims to expand control options, including voice commands, and eventually develop a feature that automatically reconfigures spaces to match residents’ lifestyle patterns.

A GS E&C representative said, “How efficiently and flexibly limited residential space can be used will become an important competitive advantage for apartment products. Through Moving Wall, we will offer residents a new residential experience in which they can use their space freely to suit their lifestyles, and continue to create differentiated value unique to Xi that they can experience in their daily lives.”
