The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism said on Nov. 3 that it will hold “Copyright Week” throughout November in partnership with the Korea Copyright Commission and the Korea Copyright Protection Agency, organizing various events and public participation campaigns to promote a culture of respect for copyright.
“November Copyright Week” is an integrated promotional brand, newly designed to emphasize the policy goals of promoting the value of copyright and a culture of respect, building on “Copyright Festival Month,” which has been held since 2024. The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism said it plans to raise public awareness of copyright through various events and online and offline promotions during “November Copyright Week” and foster a copyright culture in which creation and use are in balance.
A series of international conferences and forums will explore copyright policy directions in the age of generative artificial intelligence (AI). On Nov. 4, the “2026 International Copyright Technology Conference (ICOTEC 2026)” will be held at JW Marriott Dongdaemun under the theme “Learning Data and Copyright Technology in the Age of Generative AI.” On Nov. 12, the “2026 Seoul Copyright Forum” will take place at the Ambassador Seoul Pullman Hotel under the theme “Generative AI and Copyright: Building a Sustainable Creative Ecosystem.” Both events will be held in person and online.
On Nov. 5, the “10th Overseas Intellectual Property Protection Council” will meet to discuss policies and response measures concerning intellectual property (IP) infringement overseas. A total of 33 organizations, including relevant government ministries, public agencies, and private-sector associations and groups, will participate. On Nov. 20, the Korea Copyright Commission and the Korean Copyright Law Association will hold a joint academic seminar to discuss legislative tasks and issues in copyright law arising from technological changes in the age of AI transformation (AX). On Nov. 25, the “4th Future Forum on Copyright Protection” will address copyright protection for AI training data and AI models, as well as strategies for lawful use.
Educational and hands-on events will also be held to promote the value of copyright and a culture of respect. On Nov. 14 and 28, the National Copyright Museum will offer educational and hands-on programs to help families easily learn about the meaning of copyright and the importance of respecting creative works. On Nov. 19, an awards ceremony for the “2026 Copyright Awareness Promotion Contest” will be held at the Seoul office of the Korea Copyright Commission. A total of 50 winners will receive awards, including the Prime Minister’s Award and the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism’s Award.
On Nov. 27, a “Copyright Talk Concert” featuring former Constitutional Court Justice Mun Hyeong-bae will be held at the Korea Copyright Commission’s headquarters in Jinju. Mun will discuss creators’ rights, respect for copyright, and the value of coexistence.
On-site campaigns targeting game users and creators will also take place. A copyright information and counseling booth will operate at the game expo “G-STAR 2026,” which will be held at BEXCO in Busan from Nov. 19 to 22. Creators and industry representatives will be able to receive copyright-related counseling at the venue. On Dec. 2, the “3rd Copyright Protection Awards” ceremony will be held at the National Library of Korea to recognize individuals and companies that have contributed to protecting copyright and promoting a culture of responsible use.
Online, variety-style and experiential videos featuring choreographer and copyright ambassador Lia Kim will be released in sequence. Public participation events will also be held, including “Complete the Copyright Week Comment,” “Comment Tact Game,” and the “Catch the Moment of Showing Complete Respect for Copyright” event.
