Gwangjin-gu, Seoul (District Mayor Kim Kyungho), has established a Forest Fire Prevention Headquarters and is stepping up surveillance around Achasan Mountain for the fall wildfire prevention period. Patrols and inspections of facilities and equipment will continue on weekends and public holidays. If a wildfire breaks out, the team will immediately dispatch personnel to the scene, notify relevant agencies and begin the initial response.
Before the prevention period began, the district inspected all its prevention facilities and firefighting equipment. It repaired 15 locations by replacing old containers for flammable materials at the entrances to major hiking trails on Achasan Mountain and installing new ones where needed. The aim is to encourage hikers to leave lighters and other flammable materials behind before entering the mountain.
The district also serviced its firefighting equipment. It replaced key components of wildfire surveillance and recording devices and checked the condition and quantity of equipment in high-pressure hose storage boxes. Worn-out hoses were replaced with new ones.
Surveillance equipment will also be deployed. The district will monitor vulnerable areas using one unmanned aerial vehicle, six unmanned wildfire surveillance cameras and 11 surveillance recording devices. Audio announcements will inform hikers about wildfire prevention guidelines.
