The meeting was Mayor Kim's first official schedule in November, following the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's announcement on October 29 of additional candidate sites for new housing developments. The vice mayor, the director general of the Urban Housing Bureau, the director general of the Economic and Industry Bureau, and heads of relevant departments attended to share details of the government's announcement and review follow-up measures.
Mayor Kim stressed the need for a response strategy linked to government policy, noting that regulations on overconcentration control zones and development-restricted areas had made it difficult to attract businesses. In particular, he called on relevant departments to take proactive steps to secure the dual designation of the urban high-tech industrial complex the city has been pursuing in the Darakwon District.
He also said that alternative designations for industrial areas within overconcentration control zones and a clear rationale for the industrial site must be established first, and called for thorough preparation of materials demonstrating business demand.
He also directed officials to continue consultations with companies that had initially submitted letters of intent to locate in the area based on Camp Jackson. The aim is to explain that, although project conditions have changed, there is now momentum to pursue an actual development project, and to keep checking whether the companies intend to participate.
Metropolitan transportation measures were also a key agenda item. Mayor Kim pointed out that in previous development projects, including Minrak 2, Gosan, Ujeong, Beopjo Town, and Yonghyeon, development-restricted areas were lifted and housing was supplied without adequate metropolitan transportation measures. He instructed officials to continue consultations with the government to ensure the same problem does not recur in the Darakwon District.
