This year, the festival places particular emphasis on exploring new possibilities for cinematic expression by combining digital video with generative AI.

The opening program will feature four films: “Pohang Station,” directed by Son Haeryeong; “Walking Stick,” directed by Lee Jongin; “Lettuce II,” directed by Kim Hyeseong; and “Shadow,” directed by Im Yeongrim.

Most of these films were shot in Gyeongju and Pohang, capturing everyday spaces in the region from an original perspective.

Professor Ra Ikgwon said, “I hope this festival will serve as an opportunity to rediscover the region’s appeal and build a sustainable foundation for creative work.” He added, “In the long term, it will grow into an international film festival where creators from across the country can connect and exchange ideas.”

Attention is focused on whether the festival will broaden the creative base for independent films in the region, present new cinematic possibilities through the convergence of generative AI and video art, and help establish Gyeongju as a hub for experimental video creation and exchange.
