About 800 people from the agricultural and livestock sectors attended the event, including Icheon Mayor Seong Suseok, members of the National Assembly, provincial and city council members, heads of local agricultural cooperatives and leaders of farmers' organizations. Icheon Livestock Cooperative and livestock-related organizations representing the Korean beef, pork and dairy sectors also expressed their support for the bid.
Attendees unfurled a large banner reading, "Icheon's farmers and livestock producers strongly support bringing the horse racing park to Icheon," and chanted, "The horse racing park belongs in Icheon!"
The city plans to develop the park into a "comprehensive equine leisure hub" with facilities for not only watching horse races but also horseback riding, horse training, hands-on activities and tourism. It aims to create jobs and stimulate the local economy by linking the region's agricultural and livestock industries with its tourism resources.
Mayor Seong said, "I am grateful that farmers and livestock producers have united in support of the bid in Icheon, a center of agriculture and livestock farming. We will continue to work closely with relevant organizations and the local community to promote Icheon's competitive advantages as a location and do everything we can to secure the horse racing park."
