"It looked like a missile coming down"
Authorities have not released the identities of those on board or other details.
A jet carrying nine people crashed onto a road near a residential area in Palm Beach County, Florida, killing everyone on board.
According to CNN and other outlets on Sunday, the jet was a Learjet 60 traveling from Austin-Bergstrom Airport in Texas to the Bahamas in the Caribbean. Flight-tracking data showed that the jet plunged 27,000 feet (about 8,230 meters) in the minute before the crash.
Video of the incident showed the road severely damaged and gouged out by the crashed jet. U.S. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy said on X, formerly Twitter, that the jet burst into flames immediately after crashing. Authorities have not yet released specific details, including the identities of the nine people on board or how many were passengers and how many were crew members.

The jet was also reportedly passing through an area of strong thunderstorms a few minutes before it began its rapid descent. However, it has not yet been confirmed whether weather conditions directly contributed to the crash.
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis described the incident, saying it "looked like a missile falling." There were no reports of fatalities on the ground, but a substantial amount of debris was reportedly scattered across the crash site.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) plans to investigate the cause of the crash with the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). Authorities have closed off the area around the road where the crash occurred and advised people to use a detour until further notice.
According to NTSB records, this was the second-deadliest aviation accident in the United States this year. In June, a small plane used for skydiving crashed in Butler, Missouri, killing 12 people.
