The mural was painted on “Nolitong,” a cylindrical structure measuring 17 meters high and 15 meters in diameter. The facility once stored biogas produced by fermenting sludge from wastewater treatment. About 800 square meters of its exterior wall became one enormous canvas.
The artwork was completed through a collaboration from 2025 to 2026 among cultural arts planning company Kkonmigo Kkonttigo, Spanish graffiti artists Musa71 and Harry Bones, and Malgeunmul Sangsangnuri. The title, “Olla” (Hola), means “hello” in Spanish. It expresses the idea of connecting people through art across borders and languages.
Work began in June 2025. The artists voluntarily took part, while spray paint manufacturer Montana Cans and art supplies distributor Hangaram Stationery provided materials, allowing the lower section to be completed first. In 2026, the project was selected for the Gyeonggi Cultural Foundation's creative support program “All Arts 31,” enabling work on the central and upper sections to be completed. Both sponsors continued to provide materials.
The city expects the artwork to become a cultural and artistic attraction alongside “The Little Prince” on Turtle Island and “Red Lighthouse” and “Tree of Life” on Oido. The city plans to expand tourism offerings in western Siheung through Malgeunmul Sangsangnuri, located between Turtle Island and Oido.
Shin Je-seung, head of Siheung City's Landscape Design Division, said, “There is a connection between Sangsangnuri, which finds potential in idle facilities, and graffiti, which finds art on the streets. We will continue to pursue cultural and artistic projects that bring vitality to Siheung, including Turtle Island and Oido.”
