Siheung City Mayor Lim Byeong-taek said on November 1 that the city operated a promotional booth for its AI-bio convergence cluster at Bio Plus Interphex Korea 2026 (BIX 2026), held at COEX in Seoul from October 28 to 30. More than 600 people, including representatives from companies, universities, research institutions and medical institutions, visited the booth over the three days.

Under the theme “Siheung, Gyeonggi Province: An Innovation Hub Shaping the Future of Korea’s AI and Bio Industries,” the city introduced its key industrial infrastructure and business support programs. It outlined plans to build a bioindustry ecosystem spanning research, clinical trials, demonstration and manufacturing, centered on Seoul National University Siheung Campus and Siheung Baegot Seoul National University Hospital.

The city also presented plans to establish a clinical hub using AI and medical data, along with strategies to foster the bio materials, parts and equipment industries. It briefed company and institutional representatives on investment support programs and local conditions, and discussed opportunities for industrial cooperation and investment.

On October 29, the Siheung Bio Global Bridge Forum was held. Participants shared the vision for the Gyeonggi Siheung Bio Cluster and strategies for entering global markets from Basel, Switzerland.

Siheung Industry Promotion Agency, Basel Investment Promotion Agency of Switzerland, the University of Wisconsin Nano-Bio Systems Center, and S&S Lab signed a business agreement, laying the groundwork to support global cooperation by Korean biotech companies.

The city plans to assess investment intentions and demand for cooperation in more detail among the companies and institutions it engaged with at the event. Based on this, it will identify potential investors and continue follow-up efforts to attract companies to its bio-specialized complex.

A Siheung City official said, “This was an opportunity to showcase Siheung’s key AI and bio infrastructure and its growth potential,” adding, “We will further develop a bioinnovation ecosystem in which research, clinical trials, demonstration and manufacturing are seamlessly connected.”
