Gyeongdae Seomun Festival, Night Stroll Street Festival, Hamjisan Meokgolchon Festival... Daegu Holds Festivals in 25 Alley Commercial Districts
Autumn festivals highlighting the unique character of each commercial district are being held in 25 alley commercial districts across Daegu from October 24 through the end of November.
The festivals were organized to meet demand for autumn outings by offering citizens and tourists a variety of things to see and do, and to encourage visits to alley commercial districts to lead to visits to nearby shops and local spending.
The festival series began on October 24 at the Janggi-dong Food Alley and continued on October 30 at Kim Gwangseok-gil, followed by events on October 31 at Dongteo, Mulbegi Street, and Igok Eutteum Food Town.
On October 30, a small concert combining music and culture was held on Kim Gwangseok-gil in Daebong-dong, Jung-gu, Daegu. Busking performances by six teams, including local singers, and balloon art activities were featured.
On October 31, "Dongteo Street FESTA," featuring performances, hands-on activities, and a flea market, was held in Dongteo, Dong-gu, Daegu. The event opened with street performances, followed by shows in a variety of genres. Hands-on activities such as caricature drawing and face painting were also offered, along with a flea market featuring clothing, accessories, and various goods.
That same day, local singers performed from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Mulbegi Street in Nam-gu, Daegu, with music for people of all ages. At Igok Eutteum Food Town in Dalseo-gu, Daegu, activities included making beaded bracelets and tarot readings, as well as a flea market and celebratory performances.
Alley festivals will continue across Daegu in November. Each festival is tailored to the characteristics and business types of its commercial district and its main visitors. The programs will feature cultural performances such as street acts, band performances, and magic shows, as well as food tastings, crafts and do-it-yourself activities, and activities for children that citizens can take part in and enjoy.
Sales-promotion programs, including shop stamp tours, receipt and visit verification, discounts at participating shops, and joint promotions, will also be offered to encourage festivalgoers to visit nearby shops. Each merchants' association has also prepared its own programs, including prize giveaways and food events.
