Hwaseong Special City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Jeong Myeonggeun), announced on Nov. 1 that around 50,000 people attended the "2026 Hwaseong Lunabit Festival," held on Oct. 31 around Undapwon at Dongtan Lake Park.

Hosted by Hwaseong City and organized by the Hwaseong Cultural Tourism Foundation, the festival was held under the theme "In Search of the Lost Moonlight." It turned children's drawings and works by local artists into performances and exhibitions, and offered hands-on programs for citizens to participate in.

The festival began at 4 p.m. with a bubble and balloon show, followed by a citizen-participation random play dance and a jazz performance by a local arts group. At the opening ceremony at 7 p.m., Hwaseong Mayor Jeong Myeonggeun and other key attendees held an opening ceremony with children. The program continued with an opening performance combining fireworks, music and lighting, followed by a children's musical.

The drone show, which began at 7:40 p.m., featured selected entries from a children's drawing contest. The 500 drones rendered the children's drawings in light, filling the night sky above the lake.

Hands-on and exhibition spaces themed around light were also set up near the performance venue. At the "Light Playground," which opened at 1 p.m., visitors could explore light sculptures that responded to their movements, light-emitting diode (LED) cube blocks and fluorescent-paint drawing activities.

At the "Light Gallery," a collaboration between local company APS DNL and local artists, media art works using transparent LEDs were showcased. After the drone show, a costume disco party led by disc jockeys and dance teams was held. The festival wrapped up at 9 p.m. with the "Luna Show," which brought together the lake, lighting and music.

Mayor Jeong said, "The imagination of children, the creativity of local artists and the participation of citizens came together to turn an autumn night at Dongtan Lake Park into a special stage. I thank everyone who joined in and helped make the festival shine, as well as everyone who put their heart into preparing it."
