Jin Seongjun Issued U.S. Visa Three Days After Denial Notice: "Will Depart as Scheduled"
Heading to Hawaii Nov. 1-5
Jin Seongjun, a Democratic Party of Korea lawmaker and chair of the National Assembly’s National Defense Committee, was issued a U.S. A-2 official visa on October 31. This came three days after he said he had been notified by the U.S. side that his visa application had been denied.
“I received my entry visa from the U.S. Embassy in Seoul a little while ago,” Jin said that day. “I am relieved that the U.S. State Department has, albeit belatedly, issued an official A-2 visa to the chair of the National Assembly of the Republic of Korea’s National Defense Committee.”

“I will depart as scheduled, meet with senior U.S. military officials, including the commander of the U.S. Pacific Command, and return after fully discussing ways to strengthen security cooperation between our two countries and develop our alliance with a future-oriented outlook, focusing on the national interests of the Republic of Korea,” he said.
Jin is scheduled to visit Hawaii from November 1 to 5 with National Defense Committee members from both the ruling and opposition parties. The delegation plans to meet with senior U.S. military officials there to discuss ways to strengthen security cooperation between South Korea and the United States.
On October 28, Jin said he had been notified by the U.S. side that his A-2 visa application had been denied. He released the “Visa Denial Notice” and expressed regret, saying, “This obstructed the National Assembly’s official legislative activities.”
