Hyundai Easywell, Client Companies' Customer Data Leaked... "Scope of Leak Still Being Determined"
Names, dates of birth, mobile phone numbers and other information leaked
An incident involving the leak of personal information belonging to customers of Hyundai Easywell's client companies has occurred.
On October 30, Hyundai Easywell said on its website that it had recently detected abnormal external access to an API (application programming interface) used to look up member information, and that an investigation had confirmed that member information had been leaked.
The leaked personal information includes names, dates of birth, gender, mobile phone numbers, and email addresses. The exact scale of the leak is still being determined.
Hyundai Easywell said that as soon as it detected an abnormal access attempt at around 9 p.m. on October 29, it blocked the internet protocol (IP) address used in the attack and completely blocked external access to the affected system. It has reported the incident to the Financial Supervisory Service and the Korea Internet & Security Agency (KISA), and is investigating the circumstances and scope of the leak with relevant authorities.
No secondary damage resulting from the incident or cases of personal information being misused have been confirmed. Hyundai Easywell plans to notify customers whose personal information has been confirmed as leaked about the incident and steps they can take to prevent harm.
Hyundai Easywell is operating a dedicated 24-hour counseling center and says it will provide full compensation if any losses resulting from the incident are confirmed.
