“A Former Member of a Group of School Toughs, Famous at School”... Actress Accused of School Bullying Says, “Completely Unfounded”
Online community post makes allegations
1985-born actress and Junggye Middle School alum identified
Actress Cha Yeryeon's side has stated that the recently raised allegations that she perpetrated school violence are "groundless."
On October 29, a post titled "Please, 1985-born actress accused of school bullying, stop working" was uploaded to an online community.
The author, identified as A, claimed that actress C, born in 1985 and a graduate of Junggye Middle School, had repeatedly bullied and assaulted them during their school years, saying, "The real C is a school violence perpetrator who used to be part of a group of school bullies."
A said, "C was famous at school, and everyone at nearby schools knew about her, too. She was nothing short of a demon in middle school," and lamented, "It pains me to see her appear smiling on TV or YouTube and be portrayed as a good wife and mother, an actress who cooks well, and a wholesome character."
A added that the actress repeatedly assaulted them in classrooms, bathrooms, and buildings near the school, saying, "That girl was so cruel that she mainly slapped me. My eardrum was torn, and my cheek swelled up."
A also said they had been put in a difficult position because C borrowed their gym clothes and textbooks and never returned them, and that when A asked for them back, C would yell and constantly swear at them.
"I was so scared back then, and I can still vividly remember that shrill voice," A wrote. "Even though decades have passed, I am still struggling mentally. I go to a mental health clinic, take medication, and live with depression and anxiety."
A went on to say, "Please step away from all broadcasting and other activities, sincerely reflect on what you did, and apologize," adding, "If she insists it didn't happen or comes out with nonsense like 'I don't remember' or 'It's groundless,' I will submit further evidence, including testimonies from former classmates." The author also posted what they said was the cover of Junggye Middle School's graduation album, marked "February 2001."
The specific facts behind the claims in the post have not been verified. Although the author did not name the person, online users identified Cha Yeryeon as the actress, describing her as a 1985-born graduate of Junggye Middle School, and the allegations spread.
