On Oct. 29, Seongnam City signed a business agreement with 10 participating organizations, including the Next Generation Convergence Technology Research Institute, Seoul National University Bundang Hospital, Kakao Healthcare and Gachon University, to carry out the Smart City Specialized Complex Development Project. At the project’s kickoff briefing, participants shared details of the main initiatives and their schedules and discussed ways for the organizations to work together.

The project was selected in the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport’s public competition on June 12. It will designate 1,713,370 square meters around Pangyo Techno Valley 1 and 2 and Pangyo Station as a specialized smart city complex. The project’s core aim is to support companies in testing and commercializing innovative technologies by applying regulatory exemptions for new industries on an ongoing basis.

Key initiatives include a remotely operated car-sharing service using 5G roadside units (RSUs), an autonomous driving service supported by AI infrastructure partnerships, and health management for people with chronic diseases, along with AI-powered smart care services.

The city will also establish an integrated portal to support the smart city industry and facilitate data sharing. It plans to build a support system that takes technologies from field testing through commercialization, boosting the competitiveness of the future mobility and digital healthcare industries.

“The Smart City Specialized Complex Development Project is an important initiative that will connect Pangyo’s advanced technological capabilities with residents’ daily lives and drive the growth of future industries,” Seongnam Mayor Shin Sangjin said. “We will work closely with the participating organizations to promote the testing and commercialization of innovative technologies and expand services that residents can experience in their daily lives.”
