Police Refer Former Incheon Mayor Yoo Jeongbok to Public Prosecution Office Without Detention over 'Virtual Asset Concealment Allegations'
Yoo Jeong-bok, the former mayor of Incheon, who was accused of failing to report virtual assets during the June 3 local elections, has been referred to the Public Prosecution Office.
On the 29th, the Anti-Corruption and Economic Crime Investigation Unit 1 of the Incheon Metropolitan Police Agency said it had referred Yoo to the Public Prosecution Office without detention on suspicion of publishing false information with the intent to win an election, in violation of the Public Official Election Act.
According to police, Yoo is suspected of preparing campaign materials for the June 3 local elections without including virtual assets held by his wife, identified only by her surname, Choi, in his property declaration. His wife reportedly transferred 21,000 units of virtual assets, worth approximately 100 million won at the time, to an overseas exchange in December 2024.

At the time, the camp of Park Chan-dae, a candidate for Incheon mayor, filed a complaint with police against Yoo and his wife more than 10 days before election day. The Incheon Metropolitan City Election Commission later also filed an additional complaint, saying the case could involve a violation of election law.
