Growth in derma beauty and hair care accelerates
Amorepacific Group lifted both revenue and operating profit in the third quarter, buoyed by growth in key brands in overseas markets, including North America and Japan. Along with improved profitability in its domestic business, the expansion of emerging growth businesses such as derma beauty and hair care helped it extend its revenue growth streak to nine consecutive quarters.
Amorepacific Group said on October 29 that it posted consolidated revenue of KRW 1.2073 trillion and operating profit of KRW 130.1 billion in the third quarter of this year. The figures were up 8.9% and 24.7%, respectively, from a year earlier. Its operating margin rose by 1.4 percentage points, from 9.4% to 10.8%.
Amorepacific, the group's flagship affiliate, posted revenue of KRW 1.1295 trillion and operating profit of KRW 115.2 billion, up 11% and 25%, respectively. It recorded a double-digit operating margin for the third consecutive quarter.
The domestic business posted revenue of KRW 620.5 billion and operating profit of KRW 84.6 billion, up 11% and 42%, respectively, from a year earlier. Strong sales of key brands, including Sulwhasoo, Hera and Aestura, and growth in e-commerce, multi-brand shops (MBS) and duty-free channels drove the improvement. Aestura, in particular, saw revenue rise by more than 50%, led by its Atobarrier365 products.
The overseas business also continued to grow. Revenue rose 12% to KRW 495.5 billion, while operating profit increased 14% to KRW 48.5 billion. In North America, revenue from Aestura and Innisfree rose by more than 100% and 50%, respectively. In Japan, Aestura and COSRX each grew by more than 100%, while revenue in India increased by more than 60%. In Europe, the company expanded its distribution network, focusing on COSRX and Aestura.
Derma beauty and hair care also emerged as new growth drivers. Aestura's total revenue rose by more than 80% from a year earlier, while Illiyoon grew by more than 60%. Illiyoon's overseas revenue, in particular, increased sixfold. Hair-care brands such as Mise-en-scène, Ryo and LABO-H also posted double-digit revenue growth, supported by the expansion of their global businesses.
By contrast, beauty affiliates such as Innisfree, Etude and Espoir saw revenue and operating profit decline as a result of business restructuring measures, including efforts to improve distribution-channel efficiency.
