Developing an Autonomous AI Agent Specialized for the Food Service Industry

AI food-tech company Control M said on Oct. 29 that it had been selected for the Ministry of SMEs and Startups' “2026 Scale-Up TIPS (General Track).” The project involves developing an “autonomous AI agent specialized for the food service industry” that assesses and carries out tasks based on the circumstances at each restaurant.

Founded in 2022, Control M develops and operates Restogini, an integrated sales and operations management service for the food service industry. Restogini connects data scattered across franchise headquarters and stores to support store operations, including sales comparisons, store inspections, employee scheduling, attendance and payroll management, and AI analysis.

Through this project, Control M plans to build on Restogini's existing store management features to develop functions that use AI to analyze data, recommend operational measures, and directly carry out tasks that have been verified. The results of the development will be added as an advanced feature of Restogini.

The Inha University Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation will participate in the technology development as a joint research institution, while the Kangwon National University Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation will serve as a commissioned research institution. Professor Kim Jihoon of Yonsei University Mirae Campus plans to participate in the commissioned research, drawing on his expertise in AI architecture design. Faculty members from Bryant University in the United States will also assess how easily restaurant owners can use AI and support global collaboration through the Society of Food Marketing Researchers (SFMR) network.

“The value of AI for the food service industry depends on how much it actually eases the burden of running a restaurant,” said Control M CEO Won Jonggwan. “We will develop Restogini into an AI assistant for restaurants that helps owners make decisions and handles repetitive tasks, while also working to reduce inefficiencies across the food service industry.”
