Orient Precision Industries Steps Up Push into EV Battery Thermal Management Market
Orient Precision Industries, a company specializing in electrification components, is expanding its business into thermal management materials for electric vehicle batteries as it moves to secure future growth engines.
Orient Precision Industries announced on October 29 that it had completed the in-house development of gap pads, a type of thermal interface material (TIM) that can improve heat dissipation in electric vehicle batteries and increase production process efficiency.
The newly developed gap pad is a key material that fills tiny gaps between a battery and its heat-dissipation components to facilitate heat transfer. It is designed to accommodate differences in height between components and vibrations while ensuring stable heat dissipation. In particular, it is suited to mass production of electric vehicle battery packs and automated processes.
Conventional liquid gel heat-dissipation materials require application and curing processes, whereas gap pads are supplied as pre-molded sheets and can be assembled without a separate on-site curing process. This enables process simplification and shorter production times on automated production lines using robots, and is also expected to help customers improve productivity and reduce manufacturing costs.
Orient Precision Industries is currently discussing supply arrangements with multiple major customers for product performance validation and mass-production applications. It plans to establish a new revenue base by developing products tailored to each customer's performance requirements and building mass-production systems.
