Citizen Who Shut Off Valves at Incheon Gas Explosion Site... Turns Out to Be This Actor
Yoon Daeyeol: "It Wasn't Anything Special... I Hope the Victims Recover Quickly"
The citizen who quickly shut off the valves at the scene of a gas explosion, preventing further damage, has been identified as actor Yoon Daeyeol, 48.
According to Yonhap News Agency on Oct. 28, Yoon witnessed the gas explosion at around 8:45 a.m. on Oct. 27 while taking a walk near the first floor of a commercial building in Majeon-dong, Geomdan-gu, Incheon.
After hearing a loud bang, he found that the valves on two liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) cylinders outside the shop, which had been left in disarray, were open. He quickly shut them off and called the police. Yoon, who lived near the scene, was reportedly able to respond quickly because he knew where the LPG cylinders were usually kept.
In a phone interview with Yonhap News Agency, Yoon said, "I knew where the gas cylinders were, so I just took action. It wasn't anything special. Rather than having people hear about what I did, I hope the victims recover quickly and that repairs to the damage are completed as soon as possible."

Four people - three workers in their 60s and the shop owner, also in their 60s - suffered burns to their faces and other areas. They were taken to a hospital by 119 emergency medical responders and are receiving treatment.
Police believe the explosion occurred while work was being carried out without the gas valves being shut off, and are investigating the exact circumstances of the accident. A police official said, "If gas had continued to leak, the dangerous situation could have persisted," adding, "We believe Yoon's quick judgment prevented further harm."
