Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon strongly criticized the Democratic Party of Korea's push for a parliamentary investigation into Chief Justice of the Supreme Court Jo Hee-dae, calling it "political persecution of the head of the judiciary, unprecedented in the constitutional history of the Republic of Korea, and an outrage that directly tramples on the separation of powers and the rule of law."
Oh made the remarks on Facebook on Oct. 28, saying, "The Democratic Party has gone ahead and decided to force through a parliamentary investigation into Chief Justice Jo Hee-dae."

Regarding last week's appellate ruling on charges that he violated the Political Funds Act, he said, "If the Democratic Party had read the ruling even once with due care, it could not have made such a brazen claim," adding, "Testimony and records proved that I never commissioned a poll from Myung Tae-gyun or asked him to have someone else cover the costs."
He also questioned the reasons behind the Democratic Party's push for a parliamentary investigation. Oh said, "The Democratic Party is intent on turning the investigation into a political stage for publicly mocking and humiliating the head of the judiciary, in an effort to appease its hard-line supporters who are demanding the chief justice's impeachment."

He added, "The party is abusing even the parliamentary investigation powers granted by the Constitution as a tool for political score-settling and to satisfy the demands of its hard-line supporters." He urged the party to "abandon its arrogance that elected officials can do whatever they want and its delusion that power can even overturn the truth, and immediately withdraw its push for a parliamentary investigation into the chief justice."
