Semiconductor Strength Helps KOSPI Reclaim 6,000... What New Opportunities Is CEO Lee Youngik Watching in the Rebound?
The KOSPI recovered the 6,000 mark during the session, as investor sentiment—which had weakened during the recent market correction—showed signs of a rapid improvement. Buying was concentrated in Samsung Electronics and SK hynix, fueled in particular by SK hynix's strong earnings, expectations for shareholder returns, and positive momentum in the U.S. AI semiconductor market. On Oct. 29, foreign investors and institutions each made net purchases of more than 1 trillion won on the main board, driving the index higher. Momentum also spread beyond semiconductors to financials, securities, and machinery and equipment, changing the overall tone of the market. However, given the sharp rise in the index over a short period, it has become important to monitor the sustainability of trading value and investor flows rather than chase the rally. Market expert and CEO Lee Youngik said the key to watch in this rebound is not simply the recovery in the index, but the nature of the funds driving the gains and whether they are spreading across sectors.
CEO Lee Youngik said it is worth watching which sectors attract funds after large-cap stocks have risen. Rather than chasing stocks that have already made substantial gains, he said, an effective strategy is to select companies seeing fresh buying from institutions and foreign investors, as well as stocks whose gains have been relatively limited despite expectations for improved earnings. He added that it is important to keep tracking industries linked to expanding AI investment, including semiconductor equipment and materials, as well as power infrastructure.
CEO Lee Youngik stressed that investors should look closely at emerging leading sectors and changes in investor flows for individual stocks as the market rises, rather than focusing solely on the index's gains. He said investors should remain mindful of the possibility of profit-taking after sharp short-term gains, while focusing on companies showing both earnings growth and buying from institutions and foreign investors. The faster the market recovers, the more important it is to look for stocks positioned for the next leg up instead of blindly chasing the rally.
