Apple Unveils M6-Powered MacBook Pro, iMac... Teases 'Touch OLED MacBook' Launch
Latest 2-nm Chip... Boosts AI Performance
Apple unveiled new MacBook Pro and all-in-one iMac models powered by its next-generation chips, which deliver improved artificial intelligence (AI) performance. The company also plans to launch a MacBook with an organic light-emitting diode (OLED) display that supports touchscreens for the first time in the Mac lineup.
Apple said on October 27 (local time) that it will launch the 14-inch MacBook Pro and iMac powered by its 2-nanometer (nm) M6 chip. Compared with the previous-generation M5, AI performance has improved by 25% and graphics performance by 30%.
The new MacBook Pro offers up to 24 hours of battery life, the longest of any MacBook released to date. Customers can choose a nano-texture display option that minimizes light reflections. Nano-texture technology is also used on the inner display of the iPhone Duo.
Shelly Goldberg, Apple's vice president of hardware engineering, said, "The MacBook Pro 14 takes performance to the next level with its powerful M6 chip, boosting CPU speed and graphics performance while further strengthening on-device AI capabilities." She added that it "offers a fantastic combination of performance, features and value."
The new 24-inch iMac, also unveiled, delivers five times the AI performance and up to twice the graphics performance of its predecessor, which was released two years ago.
The new 14-inch MacBook Pro starts at KRW 3.29 million, while the new iMac starts at KRW 2.49 million. Prices may rise depending on the options customers choose, including screen size, storage capacity and memory.
The day before, Apple also unveiled a new iPad mini with an OLED display, the first in the series. The iPad mini, with a 21.6-centimeter (8.5-inch) display, is powered by the A20 Pro chip, built on the same 2-nm process as the iPhone 18 Pro. Unlike its predecessor, it is rated IP67 for water and dust resistance. However, its display refresh rate remains at 60 Hz. Its price is KRW 1,149,000, about KRW 400,000 more than that of its predecessor.
The new MacBook Pro, iMac and iPad mini will be available for preorder starting at 2:10 a.m. on October 29 and will go on sale on November 6.
