KBO Commissioner Heo Koo-youn Effectively Secures Third Term... Recommended as Sole Candidate by Board
Recommended to the general meeting with approval from at least three-quarters of directors in office
Third KBO commissioner to serve three consecutive terms, after former commissioners Park Yong-o and Koo Bon-neung
Heo Koo-youn, commissioner of the Korea Baseball Organization (KBO), has effectively secured a third consecutive term.
The KBO announced that, at its fourth board meeting of 2026, held on October 27, it voted to recommend Commissioner Heo as a candidate for the 26th commissioner position. The KBO said, "The board considered Commissioner Heo as the sole candidate and decided to recommend him to the general meeting as the next commissioner candidate, with the approval of at least three-quarters of the directors in office." As the current commissioner's term runs through December 31, the general meeting is expected to take place before the end of this year.

The KBO added, "The KBO general meeting will consider the appointment of candidate Heo Koo-youn, who was recommended by the board," and explained, "Under Article 10 of the KBO's articles of association, if at least three-quarters of the members in office vote in favor, candidate Heo will be elected the 26th commissioner and serve a three-year term beginning in 2027."
Commissioner Heo worked as manager of the Cheongbo Pintos and as a coach for the Lotte Giants before becoming a baseball commentator. In March 2022, he became the first person from the baseball community to head the KBO. In November 2023, he was unanimously reelected at a general meeting, securing a second consecutive term.
