Police Won't Refer Author Yoo Simin in 'Defamation of President Lee' Case
Police have closed the case against author Yoo Simin over alleged defamation of President Lee Jae-myung without referring it to prosecutors.
On October 27, the Public Crimes Investigation Unit of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's Metropolitan Investigation Division decided not to refer Yoo, who was accused of defamation under the Information and Communications Network Act, to prosecutors, citing the lack of grounds for prosecution.
On October 23, the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency received written confirmation from the Blue House that President Lee did not wish to seek punishment. Defamation is an offense for which a person cannot be criminally punished if the victim does not wish to seek punishment.

On September 22, Yoo appeared on Media Today’s YouTube channel and criticized the president, saying, "The prosecution reform the president had in mind was completely different from the reform we had in mind, the Democratic Party of Korea’s position, and what he had described as a presidential pledge," and, "The president has deceived the public up to now." In response, the civic group Citizens’ Action to Set Justice Right (Sasahaeng) filed a complaint with the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, accusing Yoo of defamation by spreading false information under the Information and Communications Network Act.
