The ceremony was attended by Ansan Mayor Lee Min-geun, the city council chair, provincial and city council members, and local residents.
Daebu Hwanggeum-ro is a major arterial road running north to south across Daebudo. The road has suffered congestion every weekend and holiday as residents and tourists travel through the area.
The project covers a 2.8-kilometer stretch from the entrance to Bukdong Reservoir to the entrance to Dongju Salt Farm. Completion is targeted for December 2028, and the project is currently 5% complete. The city expects the widening to ease bottlenecks and make it easier for residents to get around and visitors to reach tourist attractions.
The city plans to expedite the start of the follow-up projects, Sections 2 and 3, by securing compensation funds and completing administrative procedures. It will also coordinate the projects with other road works, including a connecting road to Janggol 1-gil, an access road to Dangjeon Village, and widening and paving work on Daenam-ro and Daeseon-ro.
At the ceremony, Lee Gyeong-sik, chairman of a local community organization in Daebudong, presented Mayor Lee with a plaque of appreciation in recognition of the city’s efforts to expand road infrastructure.
