Taihan Cable Wins Turnkey Contract for 380-kV Ultra-High-Voltage Power Grid in Germany; European Orders Top 500 Billion Won
Dutch Subsidiary to Lead Design and Construction
Headquarters' Materials Supply Contract Alone Worth 115 Billion Won
Taihan Cable has won a turnkey contract to build a 380-kilovolt (kV) ultra-high-voltage power grid in Germany, the country’s highest voltage class.
Taihan Cable announced on October 27 that its Dutch subsidiary had secured a contract for a large-scale ultra-high-voltage power grid project in Germany. Under the project structure, the Dutch subsidiary will oversee local engineering and construction, while Taihan Cable’s headquarters will be responsible for manufacturing and supplying ultra-high-voltage cables and accessories.
Taihan Cable’s headquarters disclosed that it had signed a supply contract worth about 115 billion won with its Dutch subsidiary for the delivery of materials. The Dutch subsidiary’s total contract value, which includes construction and engineering, is higher. The total project value and the client have not been disclosed in accordance with the contract terms.
The project involves constructing a section of Germany’s underground AC power grid that operates at the highest voltage. Taihan Cable previously won two 380-kV ultra-high-voltage projects in Germany in January 2023. With this additional contract, it has once again demonstrated its local engineering capabilities and construction reliability.
A turnkey contract is an arrangement in which a contractor takes full responsibility for the entire process, from design and procurement to construction and commissioning, before handing over the completed facility to the client.
Taihan Cable has secured more than 500 billion won in new orders in the European market alone this year. It has won a series of major projects in key European countries, including Denmark and the United Kingdom, as well as Germany. Across Europe, the spread of artificial intelligence (AI) technology and the expansion of large data centers have continued in recent years. As a result, investment in ultra-high-voltage transmission networks is rising sharply. The company plans to use its power grid construction experience as a foundation to expand its order portfolio into subsea cables and direct-current transmission.
Taihan Cable entered the European market in 2017 by establishing a branch in the United Kingdom. In 2019, it elevated the branch to a European headquarters. It later established a Dutch subsidiary to expand its local sales network. The company currently operates five branches and one subsidiary in Europe, including in the United Kingdom, Denmark and Sweden, and is expanding its business across the region.
