Starfield Hanam, Goyang Earn Top Rating in Global Real Estate ESG Assessment
Earned top rating in global ESG assessment for third consecutive year
Record-high scores since first earning the rating in 2024
Shinsegae Property said on Oct. 27 that Starfield Hanam and Starfield Goyang received the highest rating, "5 Stars," in the 2026 Global Real Estate Sustainability Benchmark (GRESB). After becoming the first in Korea's retail sector to earn 5 Stars in 2024, the two properties have maintained the top rating for three consecutive years.
GRESB is an organization that evaluates the environmental, social and governance (ESG) policies and operational performance of real estate assets and managers worldwide. It assigns ratings from one to five stars based on evaluation results, with the top 20% receiving the highest rating of 5 Stars.
This year, Starfield Hanam scored 91.54 points and Starfield Goyang scored 92.90, their highest scores since they began participating in the evaluation. In the "Management" category, which assesses ESG management systems and policies, both properties scored 29.89 out of 30. They received perfect scores in all four subcategories: leadership, policies, disclosure and risk management.
In the "Performance" category, which evaluates asset operating results, they received perfect scores for tenant and community engagement, as well as environmental data monitoring. Shinsegae Property said it has pursued the introduction of high-efficiency facilities and renewable energy, and has managed energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions throughout its operations.
Shinsegae Property established a dedicated ESG department in 2021 and launched Eco Lab, a research organization focused on eco-friendly buildings, the following year. Since 2023, it has published a Sustainable Development Guidebook setting out its own development principles.
