Combining Work and Relaxation Expected to Boost Longer-Stay Tourism
Suncheon City in Jeollanam-do is working to promote a new work culture and boost local tourism by leveraging its gardens and ecological resources.
Suncheon City said it will host the "2026 Korea Workation Expo in Suncheon" for three days, from November 4 to 6, at the Suncheon Garden Workation site.
Held under the theme "Moments When Rest Becomes Immersion," the expo aims to share workation policies and programs from across the country and expand workation use through exchanges between businesses and local communities.
Workation is a way of working that combines work and vacation, allowing people to work and relax at a travel destination.
The expo will feature a National Workation Pavilion and a Corporate Solutions Pavilion, along with expert talks, Suncheon Garden Workation experiences, and consultations and networking between businesses and local governments. It will introduce regional workspaces, accommodation and experience programs, and corporate support policies, as well as services related to employee benefits and smart work.
Talks and seminars will share information on introducing and operating workation programs, while participants can experience garden, ecology, and wellness content firsthand.
A Suncheon City official said, "We hope this will give businesses an opportunity to explore new ways of working and employee benefits programs, and help local communities expand the potential for longer-stay tourism. We will make preparations so visitors can experience the appeal of workation in Suncheon, the garden city."

The expo was selected for the "2026 Workation Best Model Contest," organized by the Korea Tourism Organization, and will receive government funding. Building on this, Suncheon City plans to develop programs in partnership with businesses and attract workation visitors.
