"Identify Multiple Pathogens at Once"... Seegene Shares Comprehensive Respiratory Testing Strategy
Hosted Respiratory Panel Symposium at LMCE 2026
Seegene shared its comprehensive testing strategy for identifying multiple pathogens at once and clinical experience using its next-generation respiratory panel at Korea's largest laboratory medicine conference.
Seegene, a global provider of comprehensive molecular diagnostics solutions, operated an exhibition booth at LMCE 2026, held October 21-23 at Grand Walkerhill in Gwangjin-gu, Seoul, and showcased a range of molecular diagnostics solutions, including its comprehensive testing strategy. Seegene

Ninad Mehta, an associate professor in the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of Saskatchewan in Canada, spoke at the symposium. He explained that an initial evaluation of Seegene's next-generation respiratory virus panel provided broader pathogen information, including identifying additional cases of co-infection that had not been detected by conventional tests. He also presented initial evaluation results for the respiratory bacterial panel, along with experience from its use in routine testing.
Comprehensive testing involves testing for multiple pathogens that cause similar symptoms at the same time, allowing clinicians to identify the causative pathogen and determine whether co-infection is present. Respiratory infections can be caused by various viruses and bacteria that produce similar symptoms, and infections involving two or more pathogens at once are also common. Seegene's strategy is to support clinicians' diagnoses through syndromic PCR testing based on multiplex technology, which detects multiple pathogens at once.
At the exhibition, Seegene displayed and demonstrated its STARlet-AIOS molecular diagnostics automation system. It also exhibited test product lines for infectious diseases, including respiratory infections, human papillomavirus (HPV), genital infections, gastrointestinal infections, meningitis, and mpox.

Daeho Shin, Seegene's Executive Vice President of Global Sales and Marketing, said, "It is difficult to accurately distinguish the pathogens causing respiratory infections based on symptoms alone, and co-infections are also possible. Comprehensive testing that examines a range of pathogens together is therefore important for providing appropriate treatment and managing patients at an early stage. We will expand the use of comprehensive testing with syndromic PCR tests based on multiplex technology and automation systems, and support clinical adoption through academic exchanges with healthcare professionals."
