Namyangju City to Widen 494-Meter Section of Migum-ro to Four Lanes... Compensation Process Begins
Compensation to cover 46 land parcels and 18 buildings
Compensation consultations to begin in January 2027
Total project cost: 76 billion won
Project to continue through December 2029
Namyangju City in Gyeonggi Province, led by Mayor Choi Hyun-deok, announced on October 26 that it had published a compensation plan for the Migum-ro expansion project, which runs from near Dasan Haemoro Apartments to the Binggrae Plant five-way intersection, and begun the compensation process for losses.
The project, a campaign pledge by Mayor Choi, will widen a 494-meter section of the existing two-lane road to four lanes with a width of 20 meters. The city plans to carry out the project through December 2029.
The road is a major route connecting the old downtown area with the new town, but its narrow width has repeatedly caused bottlenecks and traffic congestion during rush hours. The city expects the widening to reduce recurring congestion and make travel more convenient for residents.
The total project cost is 76 billion won. It includes 61.2 billion won for compensation, 13.8 billion won for construction, and 1 billion won for design and consulting services. Compensation will cover 46 parcels of land totaling 9,806 square meters and 18 buildings.
In October and November 2026, the city will conduct preliminary surveys of the land to be incorporated into the project and any structures or other items affected, and publish the compensation plan. After appraisals in December 2026, it plans to begin compensation consultations with landowners and other interested parties in January 2027.

The city will inform landowners and commercial and residential tenants about the project schedule, compensation items, and required documents. It also plans to hear residents' views through individual consultations.
Lee Tae-guk, head of the city's Road Construction Division, said, "As this is a project residents have been waiting for for a long time, we will ensure that the compensation process proceeds smoothly. We will listen carefully to the views of landowners and other interested parties and do our utmost to improve traffic convenience for residents."
