"If This Airs, I'm Dead"... Why a Restaurant Refused to Let Jeon Hyunmoo's Show Film
Filming request denied during "Jeon Hyunmoo Plan 4" visit to pork cutlet restaurant
Recent controversy over restaurant bookings and advance preparations for overseas trips
A scene in which broadcaster Jeon Hyunmoo was turned down when he asked to film at a restaurant aired on television. The elderly restaurant owner declined the request, saying it would be difficult to handle the business if customers flocked to the restaurant after the broadcast.
On October 23, MBN and Channel S' "Jeon Hyunmoo Plan 4" featured Jeon Hyunmoo and KwakTube visiting popular restaurants in northern Gyeonggi Province with Gaeul and Liz of the girl group IVE. They stopped by a Western-style pork cutlet restaurant, but the owner declined the cast's request to film, saying, "We don't film. We've never filmed with anyone."
Gaeul asked again, but the owner's position did not change. The owner mentioned that he was 74 years old and said, "We do dinner service, so if we appear on a show even once, it'll be the end of me. I'm sorry. I just don't think I can handle it." The cast eventually left without entering the restaurant. KwakTube respected the owner's decision, and Jeon Hyunmoo also said, "I understand, since the owner is 74 and says it's too much for him."
The scene drew attention amid recent controversy over how restaurants are booked for "Jeon Hyunmoo Plan 4." The show presents itself as having the cast look for popular restaurants on location without arranging visits in advance, but online accounts from people claiming to have witnessed advance bookings and related allegations have circulated. The production team pushed back, saying claims that did not reflect the facts were spreading. It emphasized its policy of not contacting a restaurant or its owner before filming to discuss arrangements or notify them in advance that the cast would visit.
"I Live Alone," the MBC show featuring Jeon Hyunmoo, also faced controversy over the authenticity of its production after a trip to Almaty, Kazakhstan. In an episode aired in August, Jeon Hyunmoo was shown spontaneously choosing his destination at the airport and setting off for Almaty. However, after it became known that the production team had booked plane tickets for the crew and requested local filming cooperation before the shoot, questions arose over how closely the "spontaneous trip" premise reflected what had actually happened.
