Lee Hyun-jae, mayor of Hanam, Gyeonggi Province, said on October 23, “I will see through the residents’ suggestions to ensure they lead to changes people can feel in their daily lives.”
At the “2026 Second-Half Results Briefing on Conversations with Residents,” held that day in the main auditorium of Misa Senior Welfare Center, Lee explained the progress of key projects to residents of Misa 1, 2 and 3-dong and heard their views.

The city is speeding up the handling of civil complaints through measures including video conferences and a one-stop service that assigns team leaders responsibility for cases. The briefing was livestreamed on the city’s official YouTube channel. After reports from the heads of the city’s bureaus, departments and offices, Lee held a 50-minute question-and-answer session.
Residents focused on regional transportation networks and improvements to Misa Lake Park. The city said it would work to expedite the selection of a contractor for the Misa section of Subway Line 9, which has been delayed after no bids were received for Section 2, and ensure residents’ views are reflected in the future design.
The city has made about 20 requests to the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and other agencies to have the proposed route for GTX-D pass through Hwangsan Intersection and Gyosan, backed by signatures from 22,543 residents. The city said it is awaiting the announcement of the Fifth National Railway Network Construction Plan in the second half of 2026. Regarding Suseok Bridge, it said its transportation measures include not connecting the bridge directly to Misa and widening Olympic-daero from eight to 10 lanes.
The city is working toward completing the water screen and musical fountain project at Misa Lake Park by the end of 2027. When a resident asked the city to work with the city council to link the project with efforts to revitalize nearby commercial areas, including Misa Culture Street, Lee said he would seek additional funding.
“In addition to the KRW 3.2 billion already secured, I will make a thorough case to the city council and seek its cooperation so we can secure the remaining KRW 1.8 billion,” Lee said. “This will create a key landmark that brings new life to Misa’s commercial district, so we will coordinate with surrounding businesses and move ahead without setbacks.”
In response to a request to extend the operating hours of the last airport bus, Lee called for adjustments to the schedule. The city plans to increase the number of Route 8849 airport buses from three to four in November 2026 and raise the number of daily trips from six to eight.
Residents noted that passengers arriving on late flights have difficulty taking the bus because the last bus leaves at 9:20 p.m. Lee instructed the relevant departments to “actively coordinate a later departure for the last bus, so that at least one final bus can serve passengers arriving late at night.”
In education, the city is working toward opening the Hanam Office of Education Support in September 2027. The tentatively named Misa No. 4 High School is scheduled to open on time in March 2027 to help ease overcrowding in classrooms. A science lab at Misa Gangbyeon High School, which was selected as a Gyeonggi-do science-focused school in July 2025 and built with support from the city and the education office, opened on October 23.
The city also outlined projects to expand its cultural facilities and strengthen its economic self-sufficiency. For K-Star World, a K-culture complex, the city plans to invite bids from private developers by the end of 2026 and select a preferred bidder in 2027. In October 2026, it is also moving ahead with a feasibility study for a national garden. The city plans to link its effort to attract a professional soccer team with K-Star World and submit a proposal in November 2026 for the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism’s competition to develop a multipurpose domed stadium.

Construction of a pedestrian bridge over Mangwolcheon in front of Complex 27 is scheduled to begin in March 2027 and be completed in September. The bus stop in front of the senior welfare center and children’s center is scheduled to be installed after the road is widened in May 2027. The KRW 5 billion renovation of Misa Hangang Park has completed consultations with the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport and is under discussion with Gyeonggi Province. The project will add parking, an outdoor performance venue and sports facilities.
Construction is underway on Yonsei Hanam Hospital, a 210-bed facility with a 24-hour emergency room. It is scheduled for completion in the second half of 2027 and to open in the first half of 2028. The 18-hole park golf course at Dangjeong Neighborhood Park began trial operations on October 23, which will continue through the end of 2026.
After the briefing, Lee toured the Hanam City Children’s English Library with 60 residents. The library, scheduled to open in December 2026, has one basement level and four floors above ground, with a total floor area of 3,752 square meters. It will house about 30,000 books and include a video studio and specialized activity rooms.
“Residents’ views are the most important guide to building Hanam’s future,” Lee said. “We will complete Misa in Hanam as a place with waterfront culture and everyday infrastructure.”
