AI Cheating Allegations in Konkuk University Online Exam... More Than 600 to Retake
"I Got a 99 Using AI"
Post Sparks Cheating Allegations
More than 600 students will have to retake an exam after allegations emerged that artificial intelligence (AI) was used to cheat on a midterm for an online liberal arts course at Konkuk University.
Konkuk University said on October 23 that Professor A had decided to void the original exam after determining that cheating, including the use of AI, had occurred during the online midterm held on October 19.
In a notice to students, Professor A said, "The midterm results led me to conclude that the fairness and ability of the exam to distinguish between students were not adequately ensured because some students cheated, including by using AI. Therefore, I plan to hold a retake of the midterm."
Accordingly, the midterm retake is scheduled to be held in person on December 14, the day of the final exam. The course is an online Korean-related liberal arts course with about 600 students enrolled.
The allegations of cheating arose after a student posted on an online university community that they had scored 99 points on the exam using AI. The student reportedly wrote that they had based their exam answers on responses generated by AI.
